tip time - portable app suite
over the holiday, i saw a sale on flash drives and i managed to snag a 4GB for only 30 bucks! now that i have it i have no idea what to do with all that space. then it came to me, portable apps suite. this is all you really need to be productive, and the entire thing is free. if you install all the apps, it takes up around 320Mb, not small, but look what you get...
a mini organizer bar to see them all
you can add or remove programs at your discretion. i am just so tickled with this thing, so I'll run through the list of what i have installed and what each is.
*audacity - audio editing program (you can use it to create ring tones for your phone, like i wrote about recently)
*clamwin - virus scanner - very handy
*filezilla - ftp client
*firefox - take your bookmarks with you, leave no browsing history
*gimp (graphics image manipulation program) - the free version of photoshop, layers, filters, even alpha channels
*nvu - web editor
*open office - like having the entire microsoft office with you at all times, but its free. has writer(word), calc(excel), base(access), impress(power point) plus math and draw and they are all microsoft compatible
*sudoku - duh...
*sunbird - calendar
*thunderbird - like outlook express
*vlc - massive media player with a lot of codecs
that is what i have installed on my system, but there are more available. i am sure you can see the potential for this thing
